MaTerre VR Experience

The film that radically rethinks the cinematographic imaginary of the European Capital of Culture 2019 in exhibition in Matera from the 24th of November to the 21st of December 2019

A collective film unique in its genre considering the international film scene, blending together moving images and poetry through 360° VR technology

Saturday the 23rd of November at 6.30 pm, in the evocative rupestrian church of Santa Maria de Armenis, will take place (upon invitation) MaTerre VR Experience, a collective film unique in its genre considering the international film scene. It blends together moving images and poetry through 360° VR technology. As result of a Euro-Mediterranean Poetry Film Workshop that took place in Matera between April and May 2019. The film will be shown from the 24th of November to the 21st of December 2019 (from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 1 pm and again from 4 pm to 7 pm) right in the spaces offered by the church of Santa Maria de Armenis.

The five episodes of this collective film are the result of the encounter between 5 filmmakers and 5 poets: Gianluca Abbate (Italy) and Eduard Escoffet (Spain) for Cos endins, Domenico Brancale (Italy) and Blerina Goce (Albania) for Ate ca tu, Vito Foderà (Italy) and Yolanda Castaño (Spain) for Mai terra, Giuseppe Schillaci (Italy) and Aurélia Lassaque (France) for Transhumance, Elena Zervopoulou (France/Greece) and Nilson Muniz (Brazil/Portugal) for Beleaf.

The project MaTerre – designed and creatively produced by Adriana Bruno and Antonello Faretta and curated by the artistic directors Antonello Faretta, Paolo Heritier and Lello Voce – is the result of the core need of radically rethinking the imaginary connected to the land of the “Sassi” in a perfect union between tradition and innovation, orality and technology.

The immersive exhibition will allow the spectator to literally inhabit the art piece taking advantage of the idea that the physical essence of the church is nothing less but an extension of the virtual space in which the performers are displaying both visually and acoustically their spoken words.

The video installation is accompanied by a publication (edited by ArtDigiland), critical essays, the description of the five episodes and a series of coloured photographs telling the evolution of a project that is unique in both the Italian and international film scene.

During the vernissage, beside the artistic directors and filmmakers, there will be some of the poets who took part to the project.

Both the exhibition and the catalogue are curated by Bruno Di Marino.

Entrance with Matera2019 Passport.
